About Pulseband

Pulseband is a concept wearable device that monitors heart health data including heart rate, blood pressure, EKG as well as track activity and sleep patterns.

The Challenge

The Pulseband challenge was to apply the User Centered Design principles from UX research to final UI design for the mobile app and marketing page. My 3 man team at DESIGNATION had 3 weeks to develop the product marketed toward heart disease patients and at-risk as well as fitness conscious.

The Solution

After a lot of iterations, our final design is below. We designed for the principles established from our research which are 1. An encouraging tone, 2. Glancable, and 3. Ready-to-go out of the box. My UI design, after some testing and refinement, speaks to the design principles which create a complete product.

The Process

Starting out the project, I wore a couple hats in that I helped conduct user research and also starting thinking about the branding and style direction.

Logo Identity

My idea for the logo was to create a sense of trust and lightness. Considering Pulseband is a product that helps give comfort and safety to an otherwise serious issue in heart disease, The logo should also give that security and friendliness. With that in mind, I thought about color theory and symbolism. I took the idea of a buttefly and molded it into a concept related to the heart.

UX Research

Helping with user research, I conducted a couple interviews with a CNA, a former phlebotomist and one heart disease patient. I recorded and took notes so the UX designers could synthesize and analyze the findings.
